- 60% of your grade is the result of your physical participation in class. If you are participating, and following the rules, you are earning credit. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good player or not.
- 40% of your grade comes from physical skill tests. You may choose to be graded for Basketball OR Volleyball.
- Each test is worth up to 8 points. You must earn the points by following each of the steps described below.
For Basketball:
Dribbling (2 points each)
- Making contact with the ball using your finger tips.
- Keeping your head up (eyes off of the ball).
- Demonstrate the ability to dribble high and low.
- Pass a defender 3 times in a game.
Passing (2 points each)
- Perform a chest pass.
- Perform a bounce pass.
- Perform an overhead pass.
- Perform any pass in a game 3 times.
Free Throw (2 points each)
- Hold the ball correctly.
- Use your legs for the shot.
- Extend your shooting arm and flex your wrist towards the basket.
- Perform two free throws in a row.
Jump Shot (2 points each)
- Hold the ball correctly.
- Jump.
- During the high point of the jump, extend your shooting arm and flex your wrist towards the basket.
- Perform two jump shots in a row, from different locations, at least 10 feet from the basket.
Defense (2 points each)
- Head up.
- Knees bent using short steps.
- Arms in motion.
- Defend successfully three times in a game.
For Volleyball:
Ready Position (2 points each)
- Knees bent.
- Eyes on the ball.
- Call for the ball.
- Move to the ball.
Serving (Underhand or overhand) (2 points each)
- Hold the ball and striking hand in start position.
- Toss/release ball.
- Strike the ball and follow through towards your target.
- Serve the ball successfully 3 times in a row.
Bumping (2 points each)
- Knees bent, and eyes on the ball.
- Contact ball on forearms, with elbows straight. Straighten knees.
- Bump the ball high, with control, 3 x in a row during practice.
- Bump the ball high, with control, 3 x in a row in a game.
Setting (2 points each)
- Knees bent, and eyes on the ball.
- Contact ball on finger tips, extend elbows on contact. Straighten knees.
- Set the ball high, with control, 3 x in a row during practice.
- Set the ball high, with control, 3 x in a row in a game.
Spiking (2 points each)
- Approach the ball.
- Jump.
- Strike the ball with your palm and follow through towards the net.
- Spike the ball successfully once in a game.
